Area 603

New Hampshire is different, right down to its ancient bedrock — a tectonic gift from Proto-Africa, left when the world danced with the heat of its creation. Primordial gas seeps through granite baseboards and aboriginal ghosts rattle bars of birch and maple wood. No wonder that the peculiar is so common here. In New Hampshire you are looking for something different, or else you are lost. Either way, Area 603 is where the search begins.

Okay, Speaking of Ghost Photos...

 <dc:description>Here's one from Friday, Oct. 26, in the Index-Journal newspaper. A Christopher Ogden, in South Carolina taking care of his father, asked his father to snap a picture of him with his phone to send to a buddy in New Hampshire. The photo shows Ogden next to a tree with a second figure next to him. The figure is dark with light colored clothes -- and looks to me like a negative exposure of Ogden. But hey, even though I'd guess there's a non-metaphysical explanation for this, it's a cool image nonetheless. The paper had this: "'I am from (New Hampshire), and Chris works for my construction company and is
currently living with his father. I know this picture is authentic, as his
computer is in NH and he is not,' Thomas R. Thibeault wrote in an e-mail. 'Given
the history of this area, Civil War and slave routes, it should make for an
interesting story.'"
</dc:description>

Red Sox Rule...the News

 <dc:description>I will take the risk of being called a baseball heretic in proposing the following suggestion: isn’t enough enough when it comes to the Red Sox?

Before the attack begins let me throw out the following disclaimer: I am as much a fan as the next girl. I own a baseball cap. I have been to a game. And I made my college roommates – who were so disinterested in sports that they thought hockey had a halftime show and football was divided into periods – watch the 2004 World Series. And furthermore, in my defense, I attend Boston University: To not watch the games is to socially ostracize yourself for a season.
But it seems boderline ridiculous to me that the local news station down here in Cambridge, Ma is covering the Red Sox workout plan ad naseum tonight, the workout taking preference above all other news.
I mean I am as worried as the next fan about the potential affect of high altitude on Ortiz and Ramirez, but I’d like to hear the weather for the next few days at some point as well.
I also worry about what happens if they win all four games straight in a row. No drama. No gut-clenching anticipation. Just pure winning. Will Boston and New England at large still take to the street? Will someone still put a Red Sox t-shirt on the Paul Revere statue in the North End? Or will fans just feel a little disappointed it came so easily?
As your correspondent near Kenmore Square, I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime: GO SOX….but give me my weather forecast as well.</dc:description>

 <dc:description>
During a town hall meeting in Exeter, NH, recently presidential primary hopeful Rudy Giuliani fielded a question [watch the video] from a young boy on our nation's preparedness in case of alien attack. If we're prepared for all the other things we ought to be ready for, he said, we'll be ready for that too.

First intergalactic war question ever in a presidential primary? Great Star Wars opportunity for Giuliani to associate himself with Ronald Reagan? Either way, a fun question coming from Exeter, which was the sight of a famous 1965 UFO sighting report.

</dc:description>

We’re telling them to come at least two hours early if they want to be sure to get in.”

I believe it! The paper did a circulation promotion with these guys (in conjunction with a local haunted attraction) a few years ago and people drove from hours away to do a quick handshake and get an autograph signed.

</dc:description>

A while back, when crop circles were all the vogue, I did the due diligence to discover what wondrous patterns the alien graffiti artists might have tagged into the verdant pasturelands of New Hampshire. This is the only photo I could find of anything presumed to be a "crop circle" in the Granite State. It's such a sad spectacle that I attempted to rally anyone willing to fake a better one. I managed to get a little media exposure for my efforts, nabbing one bemused interview on WOKQ. No volunteers stepped forward, even though I offered some kind of a prize. The closest thing we have, I suppose is the numerous corn mazes that crop up around this time of year. At least this photo suggests that NH got the phenomenon early, even if they didn't get it in its most grand form.
</dc:description>

The host is appropriately John Ratzenberger (of "Cheers," and the Travel Channel's "Made in America.").

Attendance is free, and is open to the general public. Bloggers are encouraged to RSVP in order to reserve media seating and Internet access.

The event will focus on New Hampshire’s continued loss of manufacturing and textile jobs. Voters will be encouraged to ask candidates blunt questions about what they’ll do to help save U.S. manufacturing. [although my personal opinion is that in addition to manufacturing and textile jobs, many "tech service jobs are being outsourced to India and other locations, and that needs to stop too].

RSVP TO:
Steven Capozzola, AAM
202-393-3430
scapozzola@aamfg.org
http://www.americanmanufacturing.org/

Janice

PS: Support companies in the United States who manufacture products or who solely use United States citizens as service vendors....
</dc:description>

On September 19-20, 1961, Betty and Barney Hill of Interrupted Journey fame experienced their alien abduction in New Hampshire's north country. Then on September 3 in 1965 the "Incident at Exeter" occurred.

Over the years there have been several unexplained sightings in Goffstown, Manchester and several other locations by very credible people. There are just too many of these reports to credit them as swamp gas or weather balloons. (Actually the Goffstown-Manchester area appears to be a veritable hotspot of activity).

Perhaps an increase in autumn UFO sightings is due to more New Hampshire citizens looking up into the clear New Hampshire skies. Or maybe our spectacular views are attracting cosmic "Leaf Peepers." Whatever the reason, keep your camera handy!

Janice
</dc:description>
